Folk on the Canal

Just folk on the canal Lachine!

The Montreal Folk Festival on the Canal was founded in 2008 by Hyperbole Music and Hello Darlin’ Productions to showcase folk, roots, and bluegrass music at a summertime event.

The inaugural Montreal Folk Festival on the Canal was a one‑day event that attracted approximately 500 festivalgoers. The Festival has since evolved into a five-day event, complete with free outdoor programming and ticketed indoor concerts. In 2013, the Festival attracted more than 9,000 music fans. Over the years, the Festival has brought in folk pioneers such as John Sebastian (The Lovin ‘Spoonful), Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul and Mary), Tim O’BrienJim Kweskin, and Roger McGuinn (The Byrds).

The Montreal Folk Festival on the Canal is run by a not-for-profit organization that is sustained by the valuable effort of a crew of upwards of 50 volunteers from all labour segments. Volunteers come back year after year to relive this rewarding experience.

It’s no wonder that the Montreal Folk Festival on the Canal is considered a fixture on the Quebec music scene and the most family-friendly music festival in town!
